All about Camellias Teatime February 2010

My mind is filled with new ideas to celebrate this upcoming year.
In addition to celebrating Valentines and our Mystery Tea Party
in February our first new event is all about Camellias,
scheduled for February 6, 2010. We invite you to join us
for a special presentation about Camellias. During teatime
we will have an horticulture expert here to share his
knowledge about raising Camellias. He is a walking
encyclopedia regarding every exact detail of Camellias.
This will be your chance to probe his mind about
gardening in general.
Stay tune for more upcoming celebrations!
Cheers,
Ellen

The Mistletoe Tester

During our busyness on Christmas Eve,
we had a special visitor.
“The Mistletoe Tester” (aka Derald)
stopped in to visit us
and his cute wife, Shirley.
Shirley has been employed
for me since the
tea room opened.
She prepares the delicious food
we serve to our guests.
She also has a beautiful
voice and sings to our guests.
We love you Shirley & Derald!

Brianna sings for us. December 2009

Our guests were
delighted
during tea time yesterday
as Brianna
serenaded them with

Christmas songs.
I was especially touched
as she sang “O Holy Night.”

We love having Brianna and her mom, Susan, visit us
at Camellia Rose and look forward to her singing again soon.
We are blessed!

Brianna and her beautiful mom, Susan.

Friends from Disney

We have met so many wonderful people
through our tea room and some have
become special friends.
Today our friends from
Walt Disney’s Grand Floridian Tea Room
were here for tea. Dotty and Pat
are not only our regular guests but
Camellia Rose friends!
They are a blessing to us.
We will see you again soon ladies!
Merry Christmas!
Ellen

We wish you a Merry Christmas! December 2009

"MERRY CHRISTMAS!”
I just love saying that to everyone this time of year.
We have been celebrating Christmas everyday with our guests. From the beautiful Christmas lights and decor, Christmas music we play all
day long, our delicious food, which includes
the cutest little Christmas mice and
scrumptious beef tenderloin, and of course
the many delicious teas. But more
importantly we are celebrating the birth
of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Yesterday our guests were reminded
of the true JOY of Christmas during
our mystery tea party. Then we had an
old fashion Christmas celebration with
carolers singing our favorite Christmas
carols. It is hard to believe Christmas is almost here.
I want to invite you to discover the JOY we
are celebrating at Camellia Rose.
Please stop in so we can wish you a MERRY CHRISTMAS personally!
JOY IN CHRIST,
Ellen

Afternoon Tea or High Tea?

High Tea is often a misnomer. Most people refer to afternoon tea
as high tea because they think it sounds regal and lofty,
when in all actuality, high tea, or ”meat tea” is dinner.
We serve afternoon tea at Camellia Rose which consists
of the traditional English menu of scones and devon cream,
tea sandwiches, desserts and endless pots of tea!
High tea is a hearty dinner served late in the evening and
consists of meats, cheese and breads.
This meal was served after a long day
of hard labor for the middleclass.

Christmas Tea 2009

The Camellia Rose staff had lots of fun
celebrating tea at the Grand Floridian!
MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Friends from Scotland

It is always a pleasure having guests
dine with us. I especially love
making new friends.
Wendy visited us for the first
time last spring
and we were thrilled when she
brought her friends back while they
were on holiday here from Scotland.
We are so excited because
we plan to visit her in Scotland this summer! New friends are
just one of the blessings that come
from owning a tea room.

Tea of Significance June 2009

Every year in June our community has a fundraising tea
for the Plant City Pregnancy Care Center.
We always host the tea tasting table and sponsor a table
for this worthwhile event. This year we chose a baby shower theme
so that we could give some of the table decorations to the center
and they can pass them on to the moms.

Our centerpiece had baby dolls and fresh roses!

Of course this was a team effort,
so I recuited some talented friends,
Judy, Joann and Erica.

Erica monogramed baby diapers to use a napkins for the event.
Everyone had a wonderful time!!

Annual Tea with the Queen 2009

We had the honor of hosting the 2009 Strawberry Queen,
Lauren Der, and her court for a special tea time!

Our guests had so much fun taking pictures and
conversing with these young ladies.
We presented Lauren with the new strawberry tea named
in her honor, “Lauren’s Berry Basket” during this event.
Plant City girls are “Drop Red Gorgeous!”

2009 World Tea Expo

I always look forward to attending the World Tea Expo. In
addition to seeing and making tea friends from around
the world, it is a great opportunity to stay at the forefront
of the industry’s latest trends, increase knowledge and
great networking opportunities.

This year’s World Tea Expo was filled with so many
memorable experiences. I had the opportunity of
tasting three new wine flavored teas, all alcohol free.
In fact, these teas are the first of their kind and were
unveiled to us during a special tea tasting at the tea expo.
I am looking forward to serving these new teas to our guests!

The “Tea Blending” seminar I attended was so much fun.
We actually hand blended three different teas, Chai,
English Breakfast, and Passionfruit. I can’t wait to share
them with you. This class has inspired me to learn more
about tea blending. I already have some special recipes in mind!

I had the pleasure of visiting with Susan Rios, the talented artist
whose artwork is featured in many of Emilie Barnes tea books
and also painted the beautiful art canvas oil painting of
Camellia Rose Tea Room. I hope you have stopped in our shop to
see it. She will be publishing a new tea book next year
through Harvest House and Camellia Rose will be
featured in it. She has agreed to visit us next April for
a book signing and painting class. I can hardly wait!

This year the expo introduced the “Attendee Appreciation
Program” and I was fortunate to qualify because I have attended
five consecutive conferences. One of the perks of this program
was a private luncheon with the guest speaker being
Mr. John Harney, founder of Harney Teas. Mr. Harney shared
some of his experiences over the years since beginning his
business blending teas in the basement of his home many years ago.

It is always a pleasure to listen to James Norwood Pratt share his
tea knowledge as he takes us around the world tasting different rare teas.

I found lots of new tea books and hope they will be delivered soon
to our gift shop so you can see them first hand.

I am so looking forward to sharing all the interesting things I learned
at this year’s expo with you when you visit Camellia Rose.
Cheers,
Ellen

Queen Katherine April 2009

This lovely lady is Katherine Fletcher, one of Plant City’s
former Strawberry Festival Queens. She lights up the tea
room when she visits us and overflows with joyfulness!
We have added her autographed picture to our strawberry
queen collection and look forward to her next visit.

Good Friday Guest April 20,2009

The gentleman pictured here with my mom, Mr. Herald, visited us
for tea with his family. After they finished dining, his wife and
daughters went into our gift shop. Then he happened to find one
of the old Bibles I have collected to display in our dining room and
sat down and began to read. This was the first time I had witnessed
anyone reading one of my Bibles during tea time. I was so touched to
see this gentleman reading I went over to talk with him. I asked him
if he was enjoying himself and in return he asked me if I memorized
scripture, somewhat puzzled by the question, I replied that I have
memorized a few verses. So of course I had to ask him what scriptures
he knew from memory. He then started with Joshua 1: 8-9 and continued
to overflow with scripture from memory. During our conversation he
explained he began memorizing in 1963 when Moody Bible sent out
cards with scriptures to memorize. His testimony is a reminder and
encouragement to me of the importance of scripture memorization.

Victorian Rose Cake

One my favorite Camellia Rose Cakes!

Exciting News 2008

I have some exciting news to share with you. We are now supplying our scones and various other baked goods to a well known upscale hotel located in downtown Tampa! They wanted to upgrade the quality of some of their menu items and we have the opportunity to work with them to achieve that. We are so thankful to have this opportunity and look forward to many more to come!
Blessings,Ellen

Romantic Bellagio 2008

After four busy days at the expo I could not leave without visiting my favorite hotel in Vegas, the Bellagio. As I approached the main lobby I was filled with anticipation and curiosity as I wondered what the theme would be in the conservatory. I also began to remember how delicious the fresh made crepes would taste. Upon entering I first noticed the beautiful glass flowers covering the ceiling as I walked across the tile floors filled with designs of flowers and butterflies. Then I caught my first glimpse into the conservatory filled with people everywhere looking at the beautiful scenery created from fresh flowers. Trains were winding around images of Mount Rushmore, larger than life sized floral covered bald eagles overlooking from their large nest, hot air filled balloons hanging from the ceiling, red, white and blue beds of hydrangea sand azaleas celebrating our national colors. I stepped back to take in the entire scene and as I watched people from all countries taking pictures and admiring this breathtaking display,my eyes gazed up to the ceiling and my attention was drawn to six huge American Flags. My thoughts then focused on the number of men and women who had given their lives so I could have the freedom to enjoy this moment, thinking not only of the current war but the previous as well. People I knew who sacrificed their lives for my freedom. My emotions were filled with thankfulness. Thank you to all who have served and now serving in our military. My crepes were just as delicious as I remembered from before and I even splurged on a cappuccino gelato! My visit to the Bellagio ended with listening to Frank Sinatra sing as I watched the dancing waters in front of the hotel.
Another wonderful memory from the Bellagio!

World Tea Expo Highlights 2008

Greetings Friends,
This is my very first post and I am so very excited to share some of my favorite highlights from the World Tea Expo. This year the expo was held in Las Vegas. Of course we all know the cute little line that states, “what happens in Las Vegas, stays in Las Vegas”, but not in my case. This was my fourth year of attending this grand tea aficionado’s event and each year I learn and see new things. The moment I entered the convention hall I began to take it all in. My first stop was a tea tasting with James Norwood Pratt. He has authored many books about tea and is well respected for his knowledge of teas. We tasted and learned about teas from Darjeeling and India. I think it so awesome that tea brings so many people from around the world for this celebration. It is interesting to meet people from Germany, India, China, Japan, England and Kenya. Every country has it’s own tea traditions and varieties of tea. I then went on to visit many other importers to taste and discover new teas. My favorite being a strawberry white tea, which we now have at Camellia Rose. This white tea has a very delicate taste with a hint of sweetness from the strawberry. I discovered some beautiful new glass tea pots in various shapes such as a pumpkin. These are a perfect visual to watch the tea leaves unfurl as they steep. Beauty is one of the many facets that I appreciate from the tea leaf. This year I met Susan Rios, she is an artist and her work is featured in many of Emilie Barnes books. She will be painting an oil canvas of our tea room. Once she has completed it, we will be offering smaller versions to sell to our guests. I can hardly wait to see what she comes up with! I also selected some beautiful pieces of teapot jewelry to bring home for our customers.Of course it was good to see acquaintances from previous expos and catch up on the latest with them. My dear friend Scottie from Royal Tea Cozies had many new and beautiful tea cosies displayed. This busy four day event went by so quickly. Now I look forward to sharing some of the favorite things I experienced with my tea room guests. I will never forget the words of wisdom from James Norwood Pratt, when I met him at the first tea expo I attended, “there are no tea experts, we are all lifelong students of this ancient beverage.” How very true, I am a lifelong student of tea!
Come, join me, as we share a cup of tea!
